Why Did God Wait Some 4,000 Years to Birth Jesus?

God’s Timing Reveals His Great Love

This is a question I’ve never heard anyone asked, but one that perplexed me for decades. Once Adam disobeyed God and was judged and sentenced to death, God prophesied of the coming redeemer, the Seed of the woman who would destroy the devil and his works. But why did He wait so long to finally deliver Jesus to the earth?

The answer lies in God’s love and justice.

God gave man the dominion of the earth. Man chose to go his own way which led to dying and eventual death. By making this decision, Adam effectively made himself god over his own destiny.  God had to prove to man that he was incapable of governing himself and governing others in the state he was in. He was no longer capable of administering the earthly jurisdiction granted to him.

When Adam disobeyed God, he legally transferred his right to dominion over the earth to God’s Adversary, the devil. We know this from the temptations of Jesus.

  • Luke 4:5-7 – And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And the devil said to him, All this power will I give you, and the glory of them: for that is delivered to me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
If you therefore will worship me, all shall be yours.
And Jesus answered and said to him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.

Jesus did not deny the devil had “all the kingdoms of the world” to give. If that were not true, this would not have been a temptation at all. Jesus would have laughed at him and told him he was a liar, which he was, but not in this case.

Notice Jesus defeated the temptation by quoting God’s Word that applied to the situation accurately, “It is written…” That is not what Eve did. She paraphrased God’s Word and, in the process, added to it, took away from it and changed it. She had no defense after she did those things. Jesus accurately quoted the Word and was protected by it. (Beware of modern translations that paraphrase for the exact same reason!)

God created man at the beginning of the second eon of the Eonian Times. From the time of his disobedience to the time of the judgment of Noah’s flood, God proved to man his utter inability to govern himself, even though God had written His law in man’s heart and gave him conscience, the knowledge of good and evil, to govern him toward that which is right. That eon ended when God announced, “The thought of man’s heart is only evil continually…” Since there was no corrective to sin available at that time, God’s judgment was to destroy all life except the 8 souls and the air and earth creatures He saved on the ark.

After the flood, God gave capital punishment to mankind to govern society.

  • Genesis 9:6,7 – And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

This required some type of civil government to administer it. From this time in Genesis we see the nations form, according to God’s plan. Civil government was delegated by God to man to serve righteous judgment in the earth. Previously man was on his own, with no restraint. Civil government was meant to restrain unregenerate man who would not abide by the law of God in his heart and the conscience God gave him.

This third eon proves to man that he cannot govern others. Every form of civil government man has imagined and tried has failed. The famished are still starving. Murderers still go free. Government leaders are more concerned with their power, their bank accounts and their popularity than with properly administering righteous justice.

The result is that Christ has to return to set up his righteous government. This will be a theocracy with no democratic rule. He will administer the laws he has established and will rule the earth with a rod of iron.

Christ was born during this third eon during which we live. He was born at the time that was right to judge the nations for their injustice. His crucifixion marked the beginning of the “conclusion of the ages” as I have shown in the body of this work.

Now here’s the key many miss. The Administration of the Secret had not yet been revealed before Christ was crucified. In fact, it was not revealed until the very end of the period covered by the book of Acts, after Israel’s rejection of the risen Christ. Had Israel accepted her Messiah during the Acts period, which is the Pentecostal Administration, Christ would have returned right then to judge the nations, deliver Israel and set up his Kingdom. The time period we live in would not have even transpired!

So, from the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of our Lord to the time of his return would have been within days or weeks, not years; not decades and not centuries. It’s been nearly 2,000 years and he still has not returned.

In summary, the Jesus’ birth occurred exactly when God wanted it to. Israel rejected their Messiah and that is why time has been extended. God is bringing the compliment of the Gentiles in first before He resumes His dealings with apostatized Israel.

  • Galatians 4:4 – But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law

Jesus’ birth occurred when man’s sins were full and ripe for judgment. It occurred after man proved man could not govern himself and that he could not govern others. Had God birthed Christ before that, man would never have experienced his own utter failure to be righteous and to uphold righteousness on the earth. God waited until the time was exactly right to bring forth His Son.

Instead of judgment, that was due, God sent His only begotten Son to condemn – not mankind – not the creation – but sin. Sin was condemned on the cross so that God might conclude all under sin – which He condemned – and thus have mercy upon all.

Always remember:  God is never late!  He is always right on time! His timing reveals His love to us.
